Overview

What is tip plasty?

Tip plasty in İstanbul — also known as nasal tip plasty or nose tip surgery — focuses only on the nasal tip. Unlike full rhinoplasty, it doesn’t usually involve reshaping the nasal bones when the problem is limited to the tip; instead, the cartilage structures at the lower part of the nose are reshaped, repositioned or supported.

The tip plays a major role in the look of the face — a drooping tip can make the nose look longer, a wide or bulbous tip can make it appear heavier, and a weak tip can affect support and sometimes breathing. Tip plasty can improve the balance, projection, rotation and definition of the tip — not an over-lifted look, but a refined, natural and functional result that suits your face.

Who may be suitable for nasal tip plasty?

Tip plasty may suit patients who are generally satisfied with the nasal bridge but uncomfortable with the shape or position of the tip — or when the tip is low, weak, wide, asymmetrical or lacks definition. But it isn’t right for every nose: if the bridge, bones, septum or overall structure also need correction, a fuller rhinoplasty may be needed. A detailed examination decides.

Tip plasty may be enough

  • Happy with the nasal bridge, but not the tip
  • A low, weak, wide or asymmetrical tip, or one lacking definition
  • A nose that looks heavy from the front or droopy in profile
  • Airflow problems linked to weak tip support or nostril collapse

× A fuller plan may be needed

  • The nasal bridge also needs correcting
  • A hump or crooked nasal bones
  • Septum deviation or an overall structural concern
  • When tip plasty alone can’t create a balanced result

Why support matters

The nasal tip is a support structure too.

The nasal tip isn’t only an aesthetic feature — it has an important structural role. Its position and strength affect how the nose looks and how air enters through the nostrils.

When the tip is unsupported it may look low, undefined or unstable, and in some patients this can narrow the airway entrance and make breathing feel harder. Tip plasty reshapes the tip cartilages and provides the support needed — bringing the tip into a more balanced position, improving the nostril shape and supporting more comfortable airflow.

  • An aesthetic role

The tip shapes how the nose reads from the front and in profile.

  • A structural role

It supports tip position and the shape of the nostrils.

  • An airway role

A supported tip can ease air entry at the nostril opening.

Form & function

A tip that breathes as well as it looks.

Some patients assume breathing problems always come from the nasal bones or septum. But in selected cases, a weak or drooping tip can also contribute to airflow difficulty — when the tip drops or lacks support, it can affect the external nasal valve and make air entry less comfortable, especially during deep breathing or activity.

In tip plasty the tip cartilages are carefully evaluated, and if support is needed the tip can be strengthened while keeping a natural appearance. Aesthetics and breathing are always considered together — a tip that looks refined but doesn’t function well isn’t a complete result.

Aesthetic role

A refined, natural tip that suits the face.

Functional role

Tip support that protects the airway entrance and airflow.

The technique

The open technique — for precise tip work.

Dr. Nuran Kalekoğlu ENT Specialist | Rhinoplasty & Facial Aesthetic Surgeon performs rhinoplasty with the open technique. In tip plasty it gives detailed visibility of the tip cartilages and controlled access for precise reshaping and support.

  • Detailed visibility

Clear, controlled access to the cartilages at the lower part of the nose.

  • Precise reshaping

A wide tip refined, a drooping tip supported and repositioned, asymmetry balanced.

  • Support when needed

Cartilage support to strengthen the tip and hold the planned shape during healing.

The procedure

How is tip plasty performed?

Tip plasty begins with a detailed facial and nasal examination — the tip evaluated from the front, side and three-quarter views, assessing tip position, cartilage strength, nostril shape, skin thickness, facial proportions and breathing. The tip cartilages are then reshaped to your anatomy: a wide tip refined, a drooping tip supported and repositioned, asymmetry balanced — and in selected cases cartilage support is used to strengthen the tip. The nasal bones are not reshaped when the issue is limited to the tip — one of the main differences from full rhinoplasty.

Tip cartilages reshaped

Refined, repositioned or balanced according to your own anatomy.

Support when needed

Cartilage support to strengthen a weak tip and keep the shape during healing.

Bones untouched

The nasal bones aren’t reshaped when the concern is limited to the tip.

Which is right?

Tip plasty vs full rhinoplasty.

They’re not the same. Tip plasty focuses only on the nasal tip; full rhinoplasty may involve the bridge, nasal bones, septum, nasal width and the overall shape. The right choice depends on your anatomy and expectations — and a detailed examination helps decide whether tip plasty alone can create a balanced result.

Tip plasty

Best when the bridge is already suitable and the concern is limited to the tip — for example, a straight bridge but a drooping or undefined tip.

Full rhinoplasty

More appropriate for a hump, crooked nasal bones, significant deviation, a wide bridge or a larger structural concern.

A natural result

Natural-looking tip plasty in İstanbul.

A natural result is one of the most important goals in nasal tip surgery — the tip shouldn’t look overly lifted, pinched or artificial; it should fit your own features. The ideal tip varies from person to person: female patients may need a softer, more refined tip, male patients stronger support and a natural masculine contour, and skin thickness affects the final definition.

At the clinic of Dr. Nuran Kalekoğlu ENT Specialist | Rhinoplasty & Facial Aesthetic Surgeon, the tip is planned according to the face — not a standard model — for a result that looks balanced from the front and natural in profile.

Recovery

How long is recovery after tip plasty?

Recovery after tip plasty is usually focused on the lower part of the nose, since the procedure is limited to the tip — but swelling is still expected and the final result takes time. A splint or protective support may be used depending on the plan; the first week is the most sensitive period, so keep the head elevated, protect the nose from pressure or impact, and follow the post-operative instructions.

Realistic expectations

What should you expect?

Tip plasty should be approached with realistic expectations — it improves the nasal tip, but it doesn’t change the entire nose structure. If the bones, bridge or septum also need correction, tip plasty alone may not be enough, and a full rhinoplasty plan may give a more balanced result.

A successful tip plasty creates a natural improvement: the nose looks more balanced, the tip is better supported, and the result is compatible with the face.
